Factory fabricated vent unit as extension of chute with canopy.The primary purpose of the vent is to dissipate odors as well as hot gases in the event of a fire. NFPA codes require that the vent must be the full diameter of the chute, be open to the atmosphere, and extend at least 0.92 m (3 ft) above the roof of the building. It typically comes complete with roof flashing and a metal weather cap.
