Intake Throat

For each floor there is an intake throat as a support for intake door. A standard floor installation usually consists of two chute sections: one straight section and one section with the built-in intake throat. 

The intake throat is also the designated location for the intermediate sprinkler heads, which are normally installed in the top corner of the throat behind a shield to protect them from falling debris and to prevent water from spraying out of the door.
